WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is collecting $1.4 million for his campaign and the Democratic Party at a fundraising event in Washington.

The event Friday night, at a private residence in the nation's capital, attracted 35 donors who each contributed $40,000.

The event capped a day marked by the return of the remains of four Americans killed in Benghazi, Libya, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. The president attended the ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base.

Shortly before the fundraiser, the president attended political meetings at Democratic Party headquarters.
