Tropical Storm Nadine near hurricane strength

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Nadine is just below hurricane strength as it swirls in the Atlantic far from land.

The storm's maximum sustained winds early Thursday are near 70 mph (110 kph) with some strengthening expected.

Nadine is centered about 800 miles (1,285 kilometers) east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and is moving northwest near 16 mph (26 kph).

Meanwhile in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Kristy has maximum sustained winds near 50 mph (85 kph). The storm is off Mexico's coast and is centered about 315 miles (510 kilometers) south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph (17 kph).
