AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Family members of some of those killed or wounded in the mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater want lawmakers to put a victims' fund under control of an independent arbitrator.
Tom Teves (TEH'-vehs) and other families called on Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and others for help Thursday. The press conference was markedly less emotional than one last month, demanding a say in how the $5 million is spent.
Teves said fund managers plan to spend some money on mental health care for victims, but he said the money should be given directly to families and government dollars should pay for all medical bills.
The 7/20 Recovery Committee says it's committed to honoring the input of all victims, not QUOTE "the voices of a few."
Teves said he speaks for the families of all those killed as well as at least 12 of the 58 people wounded.
