NEW YORK (AP) — Police officials say a 73-year-old woman told detectives a man sexually assaulted her in New York City's Central Park.

The woman, who frequently goes birdwatching in the park, said the attack occurred about 11 a.m. Wednesday. The vicinity later was swarming with police officers looking for a suspect.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the woman told police she thinks her assailant may have been a man she photographed exposing himself in the park days earlier.

A college professor who called 911 told reporters he found the woman facedown on a path. He said she had a swollen face and a black eye. He said the woman told him she had been raped and mugged.
