MILLERSBURG, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio Amish man who fired a shot into the air that killed a 15-year-old girl more than a mile away last year has been sentenced to jail.

Holmes County Prosecutor Steve Knowling said 28-year-old Marion Yoder pleaded guilty Tuesday to negligent homicide.

Judge Robert Rinfret sentenced him to the maximum 180 days in the county jail on the misdemeanor conviction — but suspended all but 30 days of the term. He'll be on probation for three years and will go back to jail for the full term if he violates it.

Yoder fired a shot into the air as he cleared a round out of his rifle last Dec. 15. The shot killed a 15-year-old girl who was driving a horse-drawn buggy home from a Christmas party.
