Iowa governor's father undergoes brain surgery

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad's father is in a Mason City hospital after undergoing brain surgery.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/U7wJgU) that the governor was in Mason City on Tuesday to be with his father, 88-year-old Edward Branstad, of Forest City.

The governor's executive assistant, Margaret Hough, told the newspaper that the elder Branstad had a tumor removed Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and was doing well.
