PESHTIGO, Wis. (AP) — A northeastern Wisconsin nursing home is closing, at least temporarily.
Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services tell WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/UIeKjj) that Whispering Oaks Care Center in Peshtigo is voluntarily closing and will move its residents to other locations in the area.
DHS officials say the department received complaints — financial in nature — last year and have been monitoring the nursing home since then.
In a statement, the home's management says Whispering Oaks is taking the action because of a labor dispute and a threatened work stoppage by its nursing staff and workers.
Management says placing the home's residents with another properly staffed health care facility is the "correct action" to take, until the labor dispute can be resolved.
State officials say the center houses 26 residents.
