INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana woman whose son committed suicide in July is facing preliminary charges accusing her of driving the 16-year-old to take his own life.

Sabrina A. Howard, of Muncie, was arrested Monday on preliminary charges of causing suicide and neglect in her son's death from a prescription medication overdose.

A probable cause affidavit says Howard's son took his own life because he lived in constant fear that he would find his mother dead from an overdose. Relatives told investigators Howard has a drug addiction.

The affidavit says the 40-year-old found her son unresponsive on a couch in their home on July 10. It says she confronted him hours earlier about taking her pills, including 30 Xanax and 26 Lortabs.

It will be up to prosecutors to file formal charges.
