CINCINNATI (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a newborn baby whose body was brought by relatives to a southwest Ohio hospital.

Hamilton County's coroner said Tuesday that the body was partially decomposed and the sex could not be determined when it was brought to a hospital in Cincinnati on Monday.

The coroner, Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco (lahk-SHMEE' sah-MAR'-koh), says the infant probably was a girl born about five or six days ago. She says the baby likely wasn't born in a hospital and probably died soon after birth.

Sammarco says more tests are needed to determine the cause of death.

Sammarco says the baby's mother, grandmother and step-grandfather brought the body to the hospital swaddled in a blanket and said the infant was dead.

Authorities have not released their names.
