STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Steubenville has installed a new bishop.

Jeffrey Monforton, a former Michigan seminary rector and parish priest, was installed Monday in a ceremony at the Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Monforton becomes the fifth bishop of the 13 county diocese for about 38,000 Catholics in 58 parishes. He replaces former Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, who was named the bishop of the Joliet, Illinois Catholic Diocese.

Monforton was rector-president of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit for six years and has been pastor of St. Andrew Parish in Rochester, Mich., since early May. He was ordained a priest in 1994.
