RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Executive Mansion on Virginia Capitol Square is turning teal to support Ovarian Cancer Month.
Gov. Bob McDonnell and first lady Maureen McDonnell are set to join non-profit group CancerDancer on Monday for an event marking the national awareness month.
The governor's office says the group is scheduled to present a special rose bush that will be planted on the mansion grounds to officially mark the day.
Officials say each year 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and about one in 71 women will be diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime. Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect, and has a high mortality rate due to late detection.
