EDGY MEDICINE MAY HELP TROOPS - Scientists across the country are pioneering new ways to help injured troops. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital can now grow human-looking ears using sheep cells and keep them nourished on the backs of rats. They can also grow human ears from a patient's own cells. From regrowing human muscle to implanting real ears, researchers are hoping to offer disfigured veterans better days ahead.
BORDER PATROL'S LATEST TOOL: DETERRANCE - The Border Patrol is trying to end the 'revolving door' for illegal migrants crossing from Mexico. Migrants are now facing a range of consequences, including jail time. Even with increased law enforcement and punishment, migrants continue to risk their lives just for the chance to reach U.S. soil.

CHICAGO TEACHERS STRIKE - The Chicago Teachers' Union announced on Sunday night that it is going on strike for the first time in 25 years. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says his team his ready to begin negotiations at any time, adding that the Teachers Union made the choice to go on strike. The White House released a statement, saying they hope that both sides can come together and resolve the matter quickly for the sake of the affected students and families.
9/11 ANNIVESARY PREVIEW - The National September 11 Memorial and Museum is previewing the 9/11 Museum's 'In Memoriam' exhibition, which is dedicated to commemorating the lives of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terrorist attacks of 2001 and 1993.
KATYN ANNOUNCEMENT - A briefing is being held today on declassified documents relating to the 1940 Soviet massacre of Polish nationals at Katyn forest.
ROMNEY-RYAN CAMPAIGN - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is campaigning in Ohio, a battleground state in the upcoming election. His running mate, Paul Ryan, is attending a campaign fundraiser in Portland, Oregon.
WILLIAMS WINS U.S. OPEN - Serena Williams regained her composure and her strokes, coming back to win the last four games and beat No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka in three sets to win the U.S. Open on Sunday night.

MI, FORD ADDS 1,200 WORKERS TO DETROIT PLANT - Ford is adding 1,200 workers to a suburban Detroit factory to build the Fusion, a sign of confidence that the revamped sedan will be a big seller.
NY, WORLD TRADE CENTER CONSTRUCTION SLOW, BUT STEADY - Construction at the World Trade Center site is still plugging along 11 years after the 9/11 attacks and officials say they are working to open the museum as soon as possible.
NJ, TRENTON MAYOR ARRESTED - Trenton, New Jersey mayor Tony Mack, along with his brother and a third man, were arrested by federal officials. The trio is accused of conspiring to obstruct, delay and affect interstate commerce by extortion.
NY, ANDY WARHOL EXHIBIT - A new art exhibition is looking into the full nature of Andy Warhol's influence to contemporary art with 45 of his works alongside the creations of 60 other artists.
FL, VOTER LIFTS OBAMA - A Florida voter was so happy to see President Obama that he gave the President a bear hug and lifted him.
LA, RANCHERS STRUGGLE WITH HERDS DROWNED BY ISAAC - A week ago ranches in Louisiana were speckled with humped cows and calves grazing in acres of marsh grasses. Now, miles of ranch lie under black pools of awful-smelling floodwaters left in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.
CA, FIRE BURNS 3,200 ACRES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the Scotts Fire in Lincoln County has burned 3,200 acres. The fire has been burning since Friday and is only 10 percent contained.

AFGHAN PRISON HANDOVER - U.S. officials handed formal control of Afghanistan's only large-scale U.S.-run prison to Kabul. The handover ceremony took place at the prison next to a sprawling U.S. airfield in Bagram, just north of Kabul.
CUBA POWER OUTAGE - Millions of people were plunged into darkness after power went out across a large swath of western Cuba. The outage affected a wide area including the capital, home to about 2 million people, and the popular beach resort of Varadero.
AFGHAN SUICIDE BOMBER - Afghani officials say that a suicide bomber has killed at least 15 in northern Afghanistan.
SYRIA - An explosion near two hospitals in the northern city of Aleppo has risen to 27, according to Syria's state run news agency. It is also reported that 64 were wounded in the blast. UN Security General Ban Ki-moon is urging human rights officials to lead the ongoing peace efforts in Syria.

TRAILER FOR FINAL 'TWILIGHT' FILM RELEASED - The full trailer for 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' has been released.
GOSLING AND COOPER TALK 'THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES' - One day before their new film, 'The Place Beyond the Pines,' was sold to Focus Features at the Toronto International Film Festival, actors Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling sat for an interview to talk about the movie.
TOMMY HILFIGER AND DIANE VON FURSTENBERG PRESENT AT FASHION WEEK - Tommy Hilfiger honored his heritage during his mostly red, white and blue Spring 2013 women's runway show, while Diane von Furstenberg called her spring collection 'Palazzo' at New York Fashion Week.
IT'S CHRISTMAS FOR LADY ANTEBELLUM - Lady Antebellum is in the holiday spirit early this year. The country trio is releasing its first Christmas album on October 22, called 'On This Winter's Night.'

85th ANNIVERSARY OF GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE - For the last 85 years, some of Hollywood's biggest stars have immortalized their hands and feet in cement at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The theatre has survived as the only purpose-built movie palace in the world showing first-run films since its opening day and is celebrating its 85th anniversary in Hollywood.
CHINA NISSAN UNVEILED - Nissan Corporation has unveiled the second model from its new low-priced Chinese brand Venucia. The launch follows a dip in sales during anti-Japanese protests last month. The compact R50 hatchback will sell for as little as 67,800 yuan ($10, 760 US dollars).
SINGAPORE ORCHIDS - Singapore's Botanical Gardens are preparing to welcome Prince William and his wife, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. The royal visitors will tour the world famous gardens, where an orchid will be named in their honor.
BOUNCERS HIRED AT HOSPITALS IN INDIA - Bouncers are being employed by the government hospital in Delhi to try to protect doctors when relatives go mad. The measure was taken after a number of attacks on staff by grieving relatives occurred when patients receiving medical care at the hospital died.
