POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Broward County residents can safely get rid of their prescription drugs they no longer need and shred personal documents during an event with authorities.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is hosting a Shred-A-Thon and Operation Medicine Cabinet prescription drug take-back event on Saturday. It's happening at the Lowe's Home Improvement store in Pompano Beach.
The prescription drug take back program allows participants to turn in unused or expired prescription medication to receive a $5.00 gift card. Residents can also shred their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other paperwork. The service is free, but limited to five boxes per person.
Authorities say the Shred-A-Thon events began in Broward County in May 2008.
