NEW YORK (AP) — How's he doing? Better.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch (kahch) has been released from a hospital after being treated for anemia.

WNBC-TV (http://bit.ly/NZz37a ) reports the 87-year-old Koch was in good spirits at a press conference Friday afternoon at the hospital. He says he's going straight back to work at a law firm.

The Democrat felt weak over the weekend while staying with friends in North Carolina. He was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday.

A spokesman says he kept tabs on developments at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. Several New York politicians checked up on him by phone while they were there.

Koch was especially interested in platform issues related to Israel.

Koch served three terms from 1978 to 1989. He's famous for asking constituents, "How'm I doing?"
