PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Allegheny County Health Department is issuing a public-health notice after a Pittsburgh man died from bacterial meningitis.
The department says in a statement that 29-year-old Joseph Christopher Cecchini died from meningococcal meningitis on Wednesday in Pittsburgh. Authorities say Cecchini, who also went by the name Joe Christopher, worked and lived in Pittsburgh and was president and publisher of Cue magazine.
Dr. Ron Voorhees, the health department's acting director, says officials want to make sure people who had contact with Cecchini between Aug. 24 and Sept. 5 take precautions and get antibiotics. He says they should seek care quickly if they get sick.
Bacterial meningitis is spread through saliva or respiratory secretions.
