Sleeping Beauty tale recreated in Kiev museum

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Want to meet your Prince Charming? Fall asleep in Ukraine's top museum and wait for the kiss.

A Ukrainian-Canadian artist presented an installation at Kiev's top gallery Friday in which five attractive young women take turns sleeping under dim lights and soft music in front of visitors, having pledged to marry the prince — or princess — who wakes them with a kiss.

Taras Polataiko, a Ukrainian-born artist who has moved to Canada, says the goal of his interactive art project called "Sleeping Beauty" is to recreate the fairy tale in real life and witness the birth of love.

But the installation also has political undertones, symbolizing the patience of the Ukrainian people who are trapped in what he calls the oppressive government of President Viktor Yanukovych.
