SEPT 11-HEALTH
NEW YORK — Nearly two years after President Obama signed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act into law, about 60,000 responders and survivors continue to receive monitoring and treatment for their illnesses as part of the World Trade Center Health Program — one of the law's two components. But the other, a victims' compensation fund to cover wage and other economic losses, hasn't been as quick to get off the ground. By Alex Katz.

SEPT 11-FLIGHT 93
PITTSBURGH — It took a public appeal at last year's anniversary by Bill Clinton to give a jolt to fundraising for the Flight 93 Memorial. That money is coming in and plans are moving quickly forward to complete the open-air national park that marks the field where Flight 93 crashed into the ground, brought down by passengers who overcame hijackers gunning for Washington. COMING HOME-NEW MEDICINE
BOSTON — Scientists are growing ears, bone and skin in the lab, and doctors are planning more face transplants and other extreme plastic surgeries. Around the country, the most advanced medical tools that exist are now being deployed to help America's newest veterans and wounded troops. An Associated Press review of progress from a government-funded effort found surprising feats of surgery and bioengineering. By Chief Medical Writer Marilynn Marchione.

SEPT 11-ANNIVERSARY
NEW YORK — The Sept. 11 anniversary ceremony at ground zero has been stripped of politicians this year. But can it ever be stripped of politics? For the first time, elected officials won't be allowed to speak Tuesday at an occasion that has allowed them a solemn turn in the spotlight — a change made in the name of avoiding politics, but rapped by some as a political move in itself. It's a sign of the entrenched sensitivity around Sept. 11 a decade after New York and the nation began crafting the rites and protocols of commemorating the terror attacks. From the first anniversary in 2002, the date has been fraught with tension over how to remember an event woven into America's political landscape and leadership without politicizing the memory of the dead.
