JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Eleven hospitals in rural Missouri will share $262,000 in federal grants to help speed up their Internet connections.

Gov. Jay Nixon says the grants will improve the telemedicine capabilities of the hospitals and their affiliated clinics to connect patients with medical specialists located elsewhere.

Grants are going to hospitals in Albany, Carrollton, Dexter, Ellington, El Dorado Springs, Fredericktown, Hayti, Marshall, Milan, Osceola and Potosi.

The federal money is to be distributed by Missouri in seven installments between December of this year and July 2014.
