MILWAUKEE (AP) — Public health officials say five people in southeastern Wisconsin have been hospitalized with probable West Nile virus.

Three of the people are in Milwaukee County and two in Waukesha County. It's unclear whether they remain hospitalized.

A fourth person in Milwaukee County is listed as a probable West Nile virus case, but it's unclear whether that person was hospitalized.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/OPS2n1 ) reports a seventh person in Dane County also likely has the virus.

One case was confirmed in Dodge County last month. That person was recovering after being hospitalized

West Nile virus is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Less than 1 percent of people infected with the virus get seriously ill.
