Calif. bank robbed; device strapped to manager

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities in East Los Angeles say two gunmen kidnapped a bank manager, held her overnight and strapped a device to her stomach before robbing a Bank of America.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Michael Duran says the robbery occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Duran says the victim told investigators she was kidnapped in nearby Huntington Park and taken to the bank wearing a device placed on her stomach.

Capt. Mike Parker tells KTTV-TV that the woman was told by the robbers the device was an explosive. The woman then had employees take money from the bank and put it outside.

Parker says a bomb squad rendered the device safe.

Authorities are looking for two men with ski masks and handguns who escaped in a two-door car, possibly a Kia.
