TORONTO (AP) — The opening-night premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival confirms its status as a showcase for movie lovers and not just industry insiders.
The festival used to begin with a small Canadian film, but this year, it starts Thursday with the Hollywood sci-fi tale "Looper," which Toronto organizers say delivers both action and ideas for audiences who want something smart and entertaining.
One of the world's biggest and most-prestigious film festivals, Toronto will present 289 feature-length films during its 11-day run.
Along with "Looper," starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt, Toronto highlights include Keira Knightley's "Anna Karenina," Tom Hanks and Halle Berry's "Cloud Atlas," Adam Sandler's "Hotel Transylvania," Kristen Stewart's "On the Road," Bill Murray's "Hyde Park on the Hudson" and Ben Affleck's "Argo."
