CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A judge has set bail at $5 million for a New Jersey man accused of stabbing two neighborhood children in the middle of the night, killing one of them.
Thirty-one-year-old Osvaldo Rivera sobbed during his appearance Tuesday in court in Camden. He's accused of killing a 6-year-old boy and wounding his 12-year-old sister Sunday after having smoked PCP-laced marijuana.
Prosecutors now say the boy was killed trying to save his sister, coming to her aid as she was on the floor being assaulted.
Assistant prosecutor Christine Shah says the girl told authorities Tuesday the man had raped her. She is hospitalized in stable condition.
Rivera is charged with murder and attempted murder, but more charges are likely.
Shah says Rivera asked, "How bad did I hurt them?" during his interrogation.
