Prosecutors: Neighbor high on pot and PCP killed boy, stabbed girl

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities in New Jersey say the man accused of stabbing two neighborhood children in their home while they slept was high on marijuana laced with PCP.

One of the children, a 6-year-old boy, was killed. His 12-year-old sister was critically wounded in the attack early yesterday.

Prosecutors say Osvaldo Rivera was arrested yesterday afternoon inside an apartment, where he'd been hiding between a mattress and a bedroom wall. He's charged with murder and attempted murder.

It's the second recent attack in Camden, across the river from Philadelphia, involving a child victim and a suspect said to be high on PCP and marijuana. Less than two weeks ago, a woman allegedly decapitated her 2-year-old toddler and then fatally stabbed herself after smoking a similar combination.

The victims of the latest attack were being watched by a 14-year-old girl, who was unharmed. She was caring for them because their mother recently underwent surgery and was still in the hospital.
