Police: Shooter in Wash. woods fires at officers

Sunday September 2, 2012 11:00 PM

ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) — A spokesman for the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says a shooter has fired at SWAT team and other police officers after law enforcement responded to reports that a local resident was shot in the leg in his driveway.

Lt. Steve Dittoe says police were searching for the shooter or shooters Sunday afternoon. The incident is unfolding in rural Snohomish County near Arlington.

Dittoe says the man who was shot suffered a non-life threatening injury. There were no immediate reports of any other injuries.

Dittoe says officers understood someone was in the woods, shooting at vehicles or people, so they initiated a SWAT team call.

Dittoe says authorities could conduct limited evacuations when necessary. He didn't know if any had been done as of late Sunday afternoon.
