TITTABAWASSEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Department of Corrections has placed the Saginaw Correctional Facility under a medical quarantine because of an outbreak or intestinal disease.

Department spokesman John Cordell tells WNEM-TV (http://bit.ly/NZSkLk ) that 10 to 20 inmates are sick with some type of gastrointestinal virus. He says officials are trying to determine exactly what type.

The station reported Thursday that authorities say they expect the quarantine to remain in effect about a week. They say any employees who get sick should stay home.

The prison is in Saginaw County's Tittabawassee Township, northwest of Saginaw.
