LOS ANGELES (AP) — William Windom, who won an Emmy Award for his turn in the TV comedy series "My World And Welcome To It," has died.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://www.lat.ms/NUUkm0) that Windom's wife Patricia says he died Thursday of congestive heart failure at his home in Woodacre, north of San Francisco. He was 88.
Windom played John Monroe, a writer-cartoonist for a New York magazine who relied on his fantasy life to escape a middle-class life.
The 1969 NBC show lasted one season on NBC but Windom developed a touring act based on the character inspired by the American humorist James Thurber.
He also appeared on "Twilight Zone," ''Star Trek" and "Murder, She Wrote," among others.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, Windom is survived by four children.
