SANTA PAULA, Calif. (AP) — Hundreds of malnourished cockfighting roosters found at a Southern California business have been euthanized.

Santa Paula officers investigating last month's fatal stabbing of a 34-year-old man at the Telegraph Road business found about 300 roosters Tuesday during a warrant search.

A Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center worker tells the Ventura County Star (http://bit.ly/RpwAqO ) that the roosters were in bad shape and were euthanized on the spot.

The interim police chief says he doesn't know if anyone had been arrested or questioned in connection with the suspected cockfighting operation.
