Illness of Ark. inmates linked to chicken salad

TUCKER, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas prison officials say an outbreak of food poisoning that sickened about 350 inmates of the Tucker prison unit has been linked to chicken salad.

Department of Correction spokesman Shea Wilson says the state health department believes the food served the inmates during the weekend is the cause of the illness.

She said Wednesday that health investigators have not determined which ingredient of the chicken salad caused the food poisoning.

The illness led to the delay of parole for five inmates. Wilson says the five were released Wednesday.

The department canceled visitation last Sunday because of the illness. Wilson says visitation — which is allowed on Saturday and Sunday — will resume Saturday.

Wilson says the prison houses 849 inmates.
