POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a 73-year-old eastern Idaho man was being treated at a Utah burn center after a house fire in Pocatello.
Jack Maher was listed in critical condition Sunday at a Salt Lake City medical center after the fire, which started at about 12:30 a.m. Maher's 15-year-old grandson was also injured, suffering lacerations to his arm while trying to escape the home. He was treated at a Pocatello hospital.
Pocatello Fire Battalion Chief Ron Davies says a portion of the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived and found Maher and his grandson, Joseph, lying on the front lawn. Firefighters faced some early difficulty in getting a handle on the blaze as several oxygen tanks inside the home exploded.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
