HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — An investigation by the Navy's inspector general for the Atlantic submarine force has found that allegations of widespread cheating on exams are unsubstantiated.
The Navy opened an inquiry in August following a review that originated in Groton, Conn., the home port of an attack submarine that was hit by a cheating scandal in 2010.
The commander of the Atlantic submarine force recommended that the case be closed as unsubstantiated with no further action in a letter to U.S. Fleet Forces Command. A copy of the letter was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The report said previous episodes of cheating on submarines were thoroughly investigated and dealt with individually.
