Milosevic's allies to return to power in Serbia

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — The Socialist party leader Ivica Dacic says he will seek a mandate to form a new Serbian government that would mark the return to power of former allies of late autocrat Slobodan Milosevic for the first time since his ouster in 2000.

President Tomislav Nikolic has scheduled a meeting with Dacic on Thursday to formally approve him as prime minister designate to form the new coalition government led by the Socialists and nationalists.

The twist in the formation of the new government came earlier this week when Dacic ditched his allies Democrats and opted for the government with Nikolic's nationalists.

Neither the Democrats nor the nationalist Progressive Party won enough votes in May parliamentary election to rule alone, and they tried to lure Dacic's Socialists to form the government.
