WASHINGTON (AP) — Employees of the District of Columbia are being offered two hours of paid leave to attend HIV awareness training and get tested.
The city announced Wednesday that government employees would be given an excused absence to attend a one-hour HIV awareness training session. They'll get an additional hour of leave to visit their primary care physicians or a health clinic to take an HIV test.
The Department of Health recently announced that 2.7 percent of the city's population is living with HIV, exceeding the World Health Organization's definition of 1 percent as a generalized epidemic.
