Police officer shot near Denver jazz event

DENVER (AP) — Denver police say an officer has been shot at a park where hundreds of families had been gathered for a free weekly jazz concert.

Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez confirmed the shooting Sunday with The Associated Press. The condition and identity of the officer were not immediately available.

The gunfire erupted shortly after the band finished playing at City Park, sending crowds of people running.

The Sunday evening shooting apparently happened in proximity to a pond in the park, and after shots rang out, an announcer on a loudspeaker told attendees that the event, where people often linger once the band finishes, had ended and requested park goers leave.
