LONGMIRE, Wash. (AP) — A helicopter has plucked two injured climbers off Mount Rainier while two others are expected to wait out a worsening storm high on the Washington state mountain with the aid of park rangers.
Mount Rainier National Park spokesman Kevin Bacher (BAA-ker) says the four — two men and two women — are all from Waco, Texas.
A helicopter from Joint Base Lewis-McChord rescued two climbers Thursday night about 800 feet below the 14,411-foot mountain's peak in 40 mph winds. A storm was moving in.
Bacher says all four have non-life-threatening injuries.
They were roped together and descending Thursday afternoon when they fell on Emmons Glacier. The two women at the end of the rope ended up in a crevasse.
Rangers quickly responded to a cell phone call and helped the two out of the crevasse.
The climbers were not immediately identified.
