SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A corrections officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary is out of the hospital after being injured in an incident with an inmate.
Department of Corrections officials tell KDLT television (http://bit.ly/KqkSGi) that the officer was stabbed in the arm with a pen or pencil Thursday evening by an inmate during a cell entry.
Officials say the cell entry was being done to keep the inmate from hurting himself.
The officer was treated at an emergency room in Sioux Falls and released.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
