BALTIMORE (AP) — A Maryland cannibalism suspect is being transferred to a state mental hospital for a competency evaluation.

Harford County prosecutors announced Tuesday that 21-year-old Alexander Kinyua's attorneys requested the evaluation and a judge ordered that he be transferred to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center for the evaluation.

Kinyua was also indicted by a Harford County grand jury Tuesday on a first-degree murder count and a weapons charge in the death of Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, a family friend. The county sheriff's office says Kinyua told investigators that he killed Agyei-Kodie and ate his heart and part of his brain.

Kinyua was indicted last week on attempted murder and other charges in an earlier attack at a Baltimore university dorm.
