EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The Mexican customs agent who had the first contact with a Texas trucker arrested with 268,000 bullets at the Mexican border says he was trying make an unauthorized U-turn when she ordered him to enter the customs checking zone.

Mexican prosecutors claim 27-year-old Jabin Bogan tried to clandestinely smuggle into Mexico ammunition commonly used by drug cartels.

Bogan says he lost his way in El Paso on April 17 and ended up crossing the bridge into Mexico with a load of bullets destined for an Arizona wholesale ammunition retailer.

Mexican customs agent America Zubia Saenz told a judge on May 29 that Bogan produced documents for the truck and the cargo at her request.

Bogan was immediately arrested and has since been in a maximum security prison in Veracruz.
