Pounding rain greeted drivers on this last big holiday of summer, causing many delays on Central Ohio roads.

The region got battered with two inches of rain on Sunday, causing traffic problems in North Columbus and testing the patience of drivers.

A stretch of southbound U.S. 23, close to Lewis Center, got washed out due to flooding, making it treacherous for drivers.

Duey Miller and his girlfriend Tanya were traveling on their motorcycle from Chillicothe to Bryan, but they had to make a pit stop because of the intense downpours and slick roads.

"It is going to be a wet ride," said Miller. "We're already wet, so we can't get any wetter."

High water and flooding caused a major bottleneck at the intersection of East Campus View Blvd and U.S. 23.

"I haven't seen it this bad before in a long time," said Matt Boback.

There were lengthy delays on East Campus View Blvd as drivers tried to make the turn onto U.S. 23.

"We've been waiting 15 minutes," said Dale Tucker. "We've been trying to figure out what's taking so long and now we see the high water."

Drivers say this area has been prone to flooding in the past as work crews continue widening the roads as part of the Northside Fix.
