A gas leak forced students to be removed from Bishop Ready High School Thursday morning.

When school officials learned it may take hours to fix the leak, around 420 students were sent home.

The gas leak occurred near Mound Street and Brinker Avenue just before 10 a.m.   According to authorities, a three-inch medium pressure line ruptured.

Police say 12 to 15 homes and businesses in the area were also evacuated. The evacuation area was north of Eakin Road, south of Whitehead Avenue, east of Brinker and west of Westgate Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

Officials were not sure how long it would take to repair the leak, but estimated that it may take hours.  A welder is expected to arrive on scene to make the repairs.
