Franklin County Coroner Resigns

Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan M. Gorniak announced Friday that she is resigning.

In a press release, Dr.Gorniak said she was offered a job at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. and that position "fits well with my professional and personal goals and have decided to accept their offer."

Gorniak said, "I have enjoyed my service to Franklin County and I am proud of the positive direction the office has taken over my years as the elected coroner. My staff played an important role in the success of the office and I truly appreciate their commitment to the excellence and service to the citizens of Franklin County. I will miss my job and the incredible people I have had the pleasure of working with throughout the past 5 1/2 years. Thank you to all the agencies, including law enforcement, medical professionals, funeral home directors, prosecutors, and other Ohio coroners, as well as the Franklin County Democratic Party for their unwavering support."

Gorniak's last day as coroner will be sometime in October.
