When you're trying to land the biggest political convention in the world, Columbus officials chose to wine and dine select members of the Democratic National Committee at M restaurant at Miranova.

"We have an opportunity tonight not only our restaurant but our city as well," said Kristen Luff, the General Manager at M.  "People may not remember what you say to them, but they will remember how you made them feel."

And after a morning rally that welcomed the DNC members like heroes, they should be feeling pretty good.

At M they'll receive more blue carpet treatment, and all of the red light bulbs in lamps in the restaurant have been switched to blue.

After a two hour reception Democrats will head upstairs for a catered meal by more Cameron Mitchell restaurants.

From there they'll watch as the entire Columbus skyline turns blue at the suggestion of mayor Michael Coleman.

"It's not lost on me," said Mike Redcay, the General Manager of Cameron Mitchell Premiere Events.  "We as a team are very well aware of how important this dinner is."

Redcay says besides the meal, DNC members will enjoy a live band.

About 50 of the top political and business leaders, including Brian Ross from Experience Columbus, will do their best to convince the Democrats that they need to come here.

"First, we are a community that has a true collaborative spirit," said Ross.  "Two, they need to make sure we can physically do this and number three most importantly is the delegate experience."

Those who attended the earlier rally agree.

"Out of everything we've had in Columbus, and we've had some great events, this would really top them all," said Alesia Howard.

"It's a great city," said Columbus resident Andre Washington.  "We've had a lot of positive stuff here in the past few years and anything to help put us on the map."

Luff says there's one thing she wants DNC members to take away from tonight.

"Our goal also is to make people think wow this is Columbus, Ohio," said Luff.  "We are a big city!"
