Columbus Police are inviting neighborhoods throughout Columbus to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 31st Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

According to a press release, Columbus Police officers will be participating in the annual event on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.  Over 150 community events are planned throughout the Columbus area including live music, porch light vigils, cookouts and multiple kid-friendly activities.   Citizens are encouraged to contact their local Blockwatch leaders or community liaison officer to find events in their communities.

National Night Out is designed to promote police-community partnerships; heighten crime, drug and violence awareness; generate support for anti-crime efforts; and build neighborhood unity by sending a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back.  Take an active stance against criminals and join your friends and neighbors in the fight against crime.
