A terrifying discovery for a Columbus woman: a camera phone peering through her window.
It was the middle of the day on Monday on Hamilton Road in northeast Columbus. The woman was in the security of her own home, when she realized someone was watching her from outside one of her windows.
Carrie - 10TV has chosen not to reveal her last name or show her face - says she did her research before moving into the Blendon Park Condos in northeast Columbus. Her goal: a place she would feel secure.
She believed she'd found that, until a disturbing incident Monday afternoon. "I had turned on some music, I was dancing around,” she said. “I was topless. It's my house, I should be able to walk around how I want. I was in the kitchen making some food. I looked up and saw something weird in my window."
She says when she looked closer she realized that “something weird” was actually the camera lens of an iPhone.
"Someone is filming me naked in my own house! So I don't even- I scream. Because I don't know what else to do. So he takes off, and I run up to my window and I see the back of him running away,” Carrie recalls.
She calls it one of the scariest experiences of her life.
Though the stranger didn't physically touch her, she says it feels as if he had. "I was in my own home and he was just a few feet away from me and I didn't know it."
She's done everything she can think to do, including calling police, posting a notice alerting other women in her neighborhood, and even keeping her handgun close-by. But she says the security she once enjoyed in her home is gone. "I want to make sure this doesn't happen to any other young female. Because it definitely changes your whole world and makes you feel unsafe. I don't want anyone else to feel like that."
Carrie suspects the peeping tom may be someone who lives in her neighborhood.
Columbus Police are investigating.
