The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-car crash in Athens County.
Troopers say the accident happened Tuesday on State Route 239, north of the village of Stewart around 7:30 p.m.
The Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Michael Allen Rood was driving a 1996 Saturn when he drove off the right side of the road, hitting an embankment, going airborne and striking a tree. Troopers say the car flipped onto its top after driving off the road.
Rood was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County Coroner’s Office.
Troopers say Rood was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not suspected as being a factor in the crash.
