Transportation Safety Administration officials say a loaded handgun was found in a passenger’s carry-on at Port Columbus.
The .22 caliber Taurus was found around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The passenger was cited on charges by airport police who took possession of the gun.
While it is legal to transport firearms in checked baggage, they are prohibited in carry-ons.
“Our advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items," said Mark Howell, TSA spokesman, in a news release.
This is the 11th firearm found at Port Columbus security checkpoints this year. A total of 10 were found in 2013.
