Pataskala Man Facing 8th Drunken Driving Charge Since 2000

UPDATED: Monday July 14, 2014 3:40 PM

A Pataskala man is facing his 8th OVI after being pulled over on Saturday.

The Newark Advocate reports that 55-year-old Gary Willis was stopped on Broad Street, near the Taco Bell.

He was stopped after being reported by Kroger employees while trying to purchase alcohol at that store.

The newspaper says the complaint against Willis indicates that while being followed by police, he turned into the restaurant parking lot and nearly caused a head-on crash.

Willis refused to take a breath test.

According to Licking County court records, Willis’s driver’s license was suspended through June 2015 as a result of a previous conviction.

On Monday, a judge set Willis' bond at $50,000.
