Six people escaped a house fire early Friday morning that destroyed the home.
The fire started around 1:30 a.m. at a home along Sellers Drive near Buckeye Lake in Fairfield County.
It began on the first floor and quickly spread to the second floor.
The first fire crews at the scene had to call a second alarm. They were concerned that the fire may spread to other buildings.
“We was asleep when the firemen came in, broke the window, and he came inside and woke us up,” said neighbor Joel Jordan.
The house next door was damaged. Some of the siding melted due to the heat.
The six people weren't injured, but a pet inside at the time did not survive. The home was ruled a total loss.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine what started the blaze. They think it began in the rear of the home.
