Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is kicking off his official tenure as Youngstown State University president by meeting with employees, students and board members.

Tressel had been acting president for two weeks. The Vindicator reports his first official day was Tuesday, when his schedule included a breakfast gathering with faculty and a lunchtime cookout with students at his university-owned home.

He'll make $300,000 annually under the contract approved by trustees.

Youngstown is familiar territory for Tressel, who started his college coaching career at the northeast Ohio school.

Tressel had been an administrator at the University of Akron for the past two years. Before that, he was forced out as coach at Ohio State after players sold memorabilia for cash and tattoos.
