Families, Children Rush To Escape Apartment Fire In West Columbus

Flames broke out just before noon on the 600-block of Brent Boulevard in west Columbus at the Brittany Hills Apartments.

Witnesses on scene say thick, black smoke was pouring out of windows as the fire spread across the complex Wednesday morning.

Several families were able to escape the flames, including children as young as one-years-old.

Those who evacuated tell 10TV a maintenance man attempted to extinguish the flames and assisted in helping residents out of the burning building.

Resident Erika Moore, who escaped the fire, says she was so afraid residents upstairs wouldn’t make it out safely.   “It was crazy.  It was chaotic.”

No injuries were reported.

Several families are likely to be displaced by the fire.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the flames.
