Police are hunting for a suspect after a man was shot and killed in his own home in south Columbus.

The shooting was first reported shortly before midnight on Wednesday at the home of Gary Null II, along East Moler Road, near south High Street.  Police say Null’s front door was not only unlocked, but left ajar, allowing the suspect to enter the home.

Once inside, the suspect shot Null multiple times in the chest.  Medics rushed Null to Grant Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead a half-hour after the shooting.

Three other adults were in the home around midnight last night, one of whom was awake and tells police there was just one suspect. That suspect did not try to hurt anyone else in the home.

There are many children living on Moler street, several just across the street from where the shooting occurred. Police are not putting these residents on alert, but they do have some reason to believe the shooting was targeted.

A motive for the shooting is also under investigation.
